Shirley Cao is a New York - San Francisco artist using mixed media to explore themes of representation, technology and philosophy.
Through her work in technology and critical race theory at Google for the last decade, and training in painting at Washington University in St. Louis; Shirley combines her backgrounds to prompt conversations with the viewer on representation and identity. Her work explores the conceptual imprints technology leaves on our lives and her projects often involve using proletariat resources to experiment with a wide range of materials, allowing the process of making to present in the final result.
She was born and raised in New York and graduated with a BFA in Painting from the Sam Fox School of Design at Washington University in St. Louis.
